Join Our Community

Becoming a member of our church is the next step in a transformative journey of faith, growth, and community. We believe in continuous spiritual growth, providing various opportunities for individuals to deepen their connection with God. Our vibrant community fosters lasting friendships, creating a sense of belonging and shared purpose. Beyond attending services, joining our church means actively participating in a community dedicated to serving others and making a positive impact.

The Bible teaches that God has directed every one of His children to join a scriptural local church. While everyone is invited to attend and participate as appropriate, those who choose to become a member of the body have opportunities and blessings that can only come by being a part. It is one thing to look at everything from the outside; it is another entirely to be a living part of the vibrant life within.
Membership is a commitment to Christ and to His East Somerset church. We strongly encourage every member to prayerfully covenant with us to

  • Faithful Attendance
  • Committed Support
  • Personal Service
  • Christ honoring love

We consciously avoid pressuring people into joining East Somerset. We don’t want church to be viewed or presented as an easy afterthought or even a nice addition to someone’s life. It is a commitment. A covenant.
We encourage you, and will pray with you, to know whether God is leading you to join us. When God leads and adds to the body, we are better and every member can then find and fulfil their places in this church home.

If God is leading you to join us on this journey, we look forward to all He has in store for all of us as you do. Your presence and contributions make a meaningful difference. Together, we are not just a church; we are a community united in love, service, and in all things, Jesus.

The Biblical Order

There is a Biblical order to the steps of a believer as they follow God’s will.

Everything begins with a personal relationship with Jesus. Until we trust Christ as our Savior, we are lost, cut off from God, and unable to please Him in any way. When we are saved by accepting Jesus as our personal Savior, we become children of God and begin a journey with Him that will never end.

The first command He gives us as His newborn believer is to be Scripturally baptized. We are not baptized to become His child; we are baptized to tell the world that we are His child! Scriptural baptism is a prerequisite to church membership.
Then, those who are saved and baptized are directed to become a part of a local assembly. Acts 2:38-47 provides both an explanation of these simple but important steps, and, as the first church, a model for us to follow.

Ways To Become A Member

The following are ways to fulfill the steps mentioned above and join East Somerset:

  • By profession of faith in Jesus as Savior and water baptism
  • By letter from another Baptist Church
  • By baptism if joining from a different denomination
  • By statement of previous profession of faith and Scriptural baptism if a letter is not possible or appropriate.

The Membership Process

Moving forward with our membership process is simple. You have several options:

1. Schedule a Meeting with a Pastor
To personalize your journey, schedule a visit with one of our pastors. You may have personal questions, questions about the church or more questions about membership. Our pastors are eager to connect with you, answer your questions, and guide you through the membership process.

2. Publicly unite with the church during any church invitation.
At the conclusion of East Somerset worship services, an invitation is extended to encourage people to respond to God He leads.  The most traditional means of joining our church is for prospective members to come forward during the invitation and share with the pastors their desire to join.

The pastor will inquire as to how they can help. If membership is the desire, the pastor will determine, if not already covered in a meeting with the prospects, whether they are saved, scripturally baptized and how they wish to join. Usually, the pastor will pray and then, when the invitation is complete, present the prospective members to the church for church approval and welcome.

If, during the process of counseling with one who has come forward during the invitation, it is determined that more time is needed, counselors will be available to talk to the prospects privately. Once they are finished talking and praying, they can rejoin the service and present the request to the congregation.

3. Through contact with Pastoral staff, submit a request for membership which will then be presented to the church for approval, usually during a Wednesday night business meeting.

There are those who are physically, situationally or geographically unable to join us in person who join us faithfully online. While not the preferred means of church participation and membership, we are grateful for the ability to minister to many beyond our immediate location.

Some are not physically able to attend. Some are not close enough to attend and have not found a scriptural church in their area. There are perhaps other extenuating circumstances.

In these situations, when God leads someone to connect with and become a part of East Somerset as much as possible, the request can be presented via the pastor to the church in any regular service. Prior contact with a pastor is required, and the request needs to be written (letter, email or even text).
